“Learn over lunch”: the AI Act
The first of an occasional series of informative 30-minute virtual insights on topical business issues, labelled “Learn over Lunch”, kicked off in July with a talk by Parva Consulting on the AI Act. Attendees came away with a clear understanding of what the EU AI Act is, what it is trying to do and what is aims to avoid, and how AI technologies are being deployed in Ireland and the EU in context of this regulation.
The EU AI Act is the world’s first comprehensive AI regulation, designed to balance innovation with accountability through risk-based rules that safeguard rights, ensure transparency, and set clear expectations for AI use across all industries in Europe. The session was timely, as the first key provisions of the Act are coming into force in August 2025, with most requirements taking effect next year, requiring organisations to align their AI systems with the Act.
Parva Consulting’s digital strategy, transformation and technology lead Matthew Turnbull, compliance specialist Nataliia Holovko and business change manager Jack Daly brought a rich depth of experience and knowledge to the session, which distilled the EU AI Act’s wide-reaching framework, revealing how it impacts cutting-edge AI applications across all industries in Ireland and calling out specifically impact to financial services, from credit scoring to fraud prevention and more. We discussed whether these regulations stifle innovation or provide essential guardrails to this groundbreaking technology, and provided examples of real-world applications.
